A related project taking a very similar approach on the sonification of live metrics is "Hatnote", a web based auditory display to show activity on Wikipedia. Sonfied are additions and subtractions to texts, as well as new user registrations. The project has been realized with the JavaScript libraries d3.js and howler.js.
This project is a very nice example how auditory displays can be used as an ambient device, creating a nice harmonic soundscape. After a short time, the soundscape will only be recognized subconsciously be the user, only raising the attention when major events occur or the harmony is disturbed.
The life project can be found here: http://listen.hatnote.com/
